The Spirit of  Fire & Conviviality

This direction reinterprets the historic idea of Kursaal — KUR + SAAL — through the new life Andrea wants to bring into the building.

Rather than recreating its past, the identity takes two fundamental ideas from the name and gives them a contemporary meaning:

KUR — The Spirit of Fire
SAAL — The Spirit of Conviviality

Together, they become KURSAAL — WHERE IT BURNS.
Not simply where a fire burns, but where food, conversation, creativity, music and human connection come alive.

KUR — THE SPIRIT OF FIRE
Historically, Kur is connected to cura — care, restoration and well-being. For the new Kursaal, this restorative spirit is reinterpreted through one of the restaurant's defining experiences: live fire. The KUR letterforms are therefore shaped with the movement of flame, glowing embers and rising smoke. Their monoline construction feels alive and spontaneous, while the sharp endings suggest the pointed movement of a flame. The typography does not illustrate fire literally.
It behaves like fire. It moves.
It transforms.
It brings warmth. KUR becomes the energy of Kursaal.

SAAL — THE SPIRIT OF CONVIVIALITY
If KUR represents the energy entering the identity, SAAL becomes the place that receives it. The serif structure is informed by the historic architectural character associated with Kursaal — drawing from the elegance, proportion and vertical rhythm of European social halls and the architectural memory of Palazzo Kursaal. But the serifs contain another contemporary reference. Their parallel lines are inspired by the iron bars of the live-fire grill. The same visual gesture can therefore be read in two ways :
from a distance — historic architectural detail.
up close — the lines of the grill.
Past and present are embedded within the same letterforms.
Architecture becomes typography. The grill becomes architecture. 

AA — WHERE CONVERSATION BEGINS.
At the centre of SAAL, the two A's become more than letters. Their rectangular architectural construction recalls the windows of a hall, while subtle human silhouettes emerge within their geometry — two people facing one another. A conversation hidden inside the wordmark. This transforms SAAL from simply meaning hall into something more important: a hall inhabited by people. Because ultimately, Kursaal is not defined by its walls. It is defined by what happens between the people inside them.

THE MEANING MARK
A small element is extracted directly from KUR: the U, tilted at 45 degrees, reduced and positioned at the top centre of the AA. By bringing a fragment of KUR into the architecture of SAAL, a distinctive standalone logomark emerges. The symbol therefore isn't an unrelated icon placed beside the name. It is born from the name itself. KUR enters SAAL.
Energy enters the hall.
Fire enters architecture.
And the architecture becomes alive with people. The mark becomes the smallest expression of the entire Kursaal idea: fire + place + people.

THE HALL OF CONVERSATIONS
The AA reveals another layer when it is repeated. One AA can represent one encounter — two people in conversation. But when repeated horizontally and vertically, the typography begins to transform into something larger.

What initially appears to be a graphic pattern gradually begins to resemble a hall filled with people facing one another, talking, eating, drinking and sharing an evening together. Typography becomes architecture. Architecture becomes people. And repetition becomes conviviality. This pattern can become a living part of the identity across menus, packaging, walls, digital communication, events and motion graphics — allowing the visual system itself to continuously fill Kursaal with people.

FROM FIRE TO CONVIVIALITY
The identity can reveal itself as a simple narrative:

Flame moves.
Embers glow.
Smoke rises.
Then the architecture appears.

SAAL THE SPIRIT OF CONVIVIALITY
Windows become people.
People begin to converse.
One conversation becomes many. And finally the two worlds unite:

More than a tagline, Fire Has No Rules is a declaration of Kursaal's spirit — where the freedom of fire meets the timeless elegance of architecture, and where human connection brings everything to life.
Fire does not follow a script. It moves, transforms, creates and brings people together.
